Natures' Wands started out as a way to bring in some extra income for my small family. I'm a single mother and any extra
is always helpful.
I have a varity of arts and crafts hobbies, but I showed one of my carvings to a shop owner I though might be interested
and Viola! Nature's Wands taken off to where it is now.
My family and I live in the rural area of Kentucky and enjoy the country life tremdiously. We are lucky enough to
have quite a spread of forest land that has a wide varity of trees overflowing on it. We have Apple, Cedar, a few Elm, many
varity of Oak, Redbud, Thornwood, & Willow; to just name a few.
In between icestorms and other natural causes, walking through the woodlands has provided us with alot of wood pieces
to design from. We don't heat with wood so there isn't any harvesting from that. Nor will I harvest a living tree or sapling
just to provide someone with either a wand or a staff. It doesn't work that way...at least not for me.
Pieces are sometimes chosen by me, othertimes they "raise" their hands, or flat out yell to be chosen. After a piece
has been chosen, I work to, most times, debark the wood.
There are occassions that the wood doesn't want that. I handle it while sketching an idea. And trust me, the rough sketch
is just that, a rough idea of what may come...not nesseccarily what does come from the wood piece.
I gentle remove the wood that is not part of the design. Most of my crafted wands are a combination of the first sketched
idea and what the wood itself desires.
However, please be aware that when it comes to Custom Designed pieces, I first select the wood sections that cover the
purpose desired. Then I hold the persons' desire in the forefront of my mind as a shift the wood pieces. this allows me to
find the wood that is agreeable to the desire of the design and the purpose.
Nothing is forced and because of this, these wonderful Heirloom Quality Wands are reborn.
